My Definite Chief Aim

“I, Bruce Lee, will be the highest paid Oriental superstar in the United States. In return I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor. Starting 1970 I will achieve world fame and from then onward till the end of 1980 I will have in my possession $10,000,000. I will live the way I please and achieve inner harmony and happiness.” – Bruce Lee Jan. 1969

This is a very powerful example of a definite chief aim. Bruce Lee achieved all of his goals and so can you! The question is finding your own DEFINITE CHIEF AIM and it’s not such an easy task. The fact is that without one, your chances of success go down by about 100%.

In 1928, after twenty-five years of research studying over 25,000 individuals Napoleon Hill published a book titled Law of Success, his goal was to find out “how wealthy men become that way.”  What he learned was that about 95% of the people he interviewed were “failures” and the remaining 5% shared the concept of a definiteness of purpose. Failure being defined as the inability to find happiness.

Armed with this knowledge, it is obvious that if you wish to achieve success, the first step is to formulate your own personal version of a definite chief aim. The bad news is that it can not be something to the effect of “to achieve happiness and success” or “to attain financial freedom”. Those statements are too vague and impersonal. You will have to work and search deep within yourself to find your own DEFINITE CHIEF AIM.

The good news is that the time and effort will be worth it. The truth is that you can not put a value on what it will be worth because it will start you on the path to what ever you want. Aim high because virtually anything is possible as long as you can think it and create a vision of it, you can have it

Now how do you craft a DEFINITE CHIEF AIM? The first step is to take money out of the equation. Everyone wants and needs lots of money so it goes without saying that it will be part of the equation. The next step is to think of what do you want to do that brings you the most joy utilizing your god given talents. For me it is helping to guide small business owners to success. Therefore:

My Definite Chief Aim

I, Joseph R. DiChiara will become one of the best known authorities on achieving small business success in the world. I will reach this goal by working with small business owners and documenting their success. I will author articles and books while speaking to audiences of any size as often as possible on the subject. By 2015 I will have no debt, own several houses, one with a lake, one on Long Island and one in Latin America. I will have a net worth of over $25,000,000. I will  be able to live as I choose on a daily basis and have inner harmony and peace.

 

I borrowed the last part from Mr. Lee but that’s ok. You can too if that’s part of what you would like to achieve. Now I have been an accountant for over twenty five years and always felt that what I was doing was only part of the picture. The truth is that what really makes me feel good is when I can use my knowledge and experience to help someone. It turns out that I can also make money at it. But it’s really not about the money. The money is the result of what I am doing. That is the key! If you can focus on what you do best and provide it to the people or organizations that need it the money will follow. Most people have it backwards. They say that “I need to make money so what can I do”. When it should be “what can I do best so I can make the money I need to do the things I want to do”
